Vita Vea is quickly becoming one of the most dominant interior talents in the NFL and will be a force to reckon with next season. And as I studied his film he flashed with near perfect technique especially with pass rush stunting.
So for this week's D-Line Examples I'll be breaking down how he executes the TEX stunt.
Step 1: Rush the guard
Vita executes a pass rush move on the guard so he can't push him out of the B gap and into his defensive end.
Step 2: Pin the tackle
Next Vita violently pins the tackle to prevent him from sticking on the DE. The more violent the pin the better!
Step 3: Snap off or take 2
In a perfect world Vita should snap off the tackle and redirect to the QB, but since the guard stays on him, he take two and gives his DE a free path to the QB. What a force!
And what about the DE?
The TEX stunt will not work unless the tackle feels threatened by the ends speed. So it's critical for the end to rush upfield to occupy the attention of the tackle before looping around for the sack.
That's all for today!
See you again next week.
